Farnham Ramblers was founded in 1962. We have an excellent, extensive and varied walk programme to cater for the demand of our 480+ members. It is a rolling programme aimed at all ages and abilities. Distances range from 2 miles to 11+ miles and there are walks every day in the summer months. Some walks are specifically shorter and slower while others are faster and longer in order to cater for all abilities and desires. Non members are very welcome to join us and we often have walkers visiting from elsewhere - often because their group does not walk that day and/or because we have a welcoming and friendly reputation.
We organise regular weekly walks on particular days of the week throughout the year, including bank holidays. There are usually two walks on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Each of these regular weekly walks is organised by a Co-ordinator; the large number of walks that we are able to organise is because of the hard work of these co-ordinators. The co-ordinator will normally organise the walks for a particular day of the week to be similar, and usually starting at the same time. For example, Wednesday short walks are 3 or 4 miles and taken at a slow pace; Sunday long walks are 7 or more miles and more arduous.
Our programme offers plenty for those in full-time work. In addition to Saturday and Sunday walks, in the summer months from late April onwards, there are walks on Tuesday evenings.
Unless stated otherwise, all our walks are circular and start from a car parking spot. The start is usually a free public car park, but is sometimes roadside or a National Trust car park (free to National Trust members displaying a sticker). The walk description will describe any exceptions to the norm. (The photograph above was taken from Farnham Park car park, a regular starting place.)
In addition to traditional led walks, we organise litter pick walks and themed walks. We occasionally have coach rambles when we venture further afield. (We can only offer these coach rambles to our members.) Our Leaders are encouraged to talk about local sites and history on our walks.
We have a footpath warden scheme and a strong programme of footpath maintenance to help ensure a great walking experience in our local area.
We hold regular well attended social events and have walking holidays twice a year, usually in the Spring and Autumn.
Please do not hesitate to contact us.
